The Odd-yssey

Script

The Odd-yssey is an interactive trunk show that retells the classic Greek story, Homer’s Odyssey, with a few…adjustments.

In this lively street show, three actors (along with a few willing guests) take the audience on a hilarious voyage across the seas where they will encounter a bumbling cyclops, enchanting sirens, and fearsome sea monsters as King Odysseus just tries to make it home in time for his dinner reservation.

Fear the Unknown

Treatment

Fear the Unknown is story-based, horror event concept featuring interactive and role-playing elements.

The Unknown, an extremist group of computer hackers, has infiltrated a local horror event. Using an interactive mobile app, guests will have the choice to join or oppose The Unknown. By completing challenges, purchasing food items, and competing in mobile games against other players, guests earn “Krypto,” a currency that can be used to hack physical objects in the park, earn merchandise discounts, or even unlock alternate paths through the haunted houses.

Lost Legends: Expedition to the Wandering City

Treatment

Lost Legends: Expedition to the Wandering City  is an innovative, multi-stage attraction that puts guests in the middle of an exhilarating adventure to discover the remnants of an ancient and legendary city, lost in the wilderness of Alaska. The attraction unfolds in three parts: starting with a “dueling” motion-based dark ride sending two vehicles of guests hurtling across the tundra, continuing with a walk-through show experience allowing guests to explore the icy ruins of the lost city on foot, and concluding back on board the all-terrain vehicles with a precarious escape from the crumbling caverns.

I served as the show writer for this project, developing the concept and story and worked with the artists to create a storyboard and animatic.

Astra's Flight

Script

Astra’s Flight is a live museum show that follows the imaginative journey of a young girl and her grandfather through the history of manned flight. As they are transported through time and space, they encounter iconic figures of aviation who ultimately inspire Astra to believe in herself and follow her dreams.

The planetarium-like domed theater features thrilling and immersive projections that place guests right in the action: drifting through fluffy clouds, in the cockpit of a screaming fighter jet, and even blasting off alongside a booming rocket headed to Mars.

Fenway Faithful Experience

The Ultimate Boston Red Sox Fan Experience!

Treatment

As a sort of “visitor’s center” for the franchise, the Fenway Faithful Experience features interactive games, museum exhibits, the Red Sox Hall of Fame, and a scaled replica of nearby Fenway Park to explore. Guests will create a player and track points and upgrades on their very own RFID-enabled baseball card as they test their skills and interact with the exhibits. Furthermore, the building serves as a  lively dining and entertainment venue, featuring a social batting cage experience, family sports restaurant, and swanky rooftop bar with amazing views of Boston and nearby Fenway.

The Fenway Faithful Experience  would not only provide an essential pre- or post-game stop for those attending a game, but, crucially, this attraction would drive attendance to the area throughout the year, even when games aren’t being played.

Legends of the Hidden Temple:
A Mini-Golf Adventure

Treatment

A miniature golf course concept created in Maya and Photoshop.

You and your fellow adventurers have stumbled upon an ancient Mayan temple, deep in the jungle. With the mysterious talking stone head, Olmec, as your guide, you must conquer the temple’s challenges, navigate through its puzzling chambers, and discover the hidden, legendary artifact—all while participating in the most traditional of temple games, miniature golf!

The goal in adapting this classic, adventure-themed game show to a miniature golf course was to not only evoke the Mesoamerican setting, but also translate the show’s iconic gameplay. Each hole is inspired by an individual event from the show, and some feature extra challenges that create a “game within a game.” This course was designed to be the next evolution of miniature golf, featuring a high-tech, automatic scoring and gameplay system, combined with highly interactive and unique course features.

Mysteries of the Deep

Treatment - Reference Deck

A submerged dark ride concept created as part of the Themed Entertainment Creative Workshop Series, led by Robert Coker of Super 78 Studios.

Journey to the depths of the ocean to discover the Mysteries of the Deep as you seek out evidence of legendary sea monsters. But beware, what hides in the deep may wish to remain hidden. Mysteries of the Deep is a thrilling, interactive, submerged dark ride set in a live aquarium that allows guests to pilot their own submersible pods as they explore the depths of the ocean and discover the unique, fascinating, and fearsome creatures therein.

I challenged myself to innovate this traditionally slow and family-friendly ride system by including thrill elements, an intense setting and story, and a new type of motion controlled, underwater ride vehicle. Ideally, this ride would feature a second track for those who would prefer a more relaxed experience.

Trials of the Tribunal

Script - Highlight Video

An original, interactive, superhero themed show.

Co-Written with Carson Luter

Trials of the Tribunal invites guests to assume the roles of budding super-powered individuals as they face a series of training scenarios designed to test their abilities. Ultimately, they must work together and combine their powers to defeat a surprising foe as the training session becomes all too real.

This show combines role playing, games, improvisation, and escape room elements in order to create an experience that seeks to guide the participants through the show, while still granting them agency in how they approach the challenges.

Androcles and the Lion

Script

An audience-participation adaptation of the classic story in the style of a theme park trunk show.

Adapted from the play by Aurand Harris.

This adaptation of Androcles and the Lion takes the classic story and places a cast of unwitting guests in the starring roles. Guided by an actor's narration, the guests are given basic costumes, blocking, and lines to tell a story full of action, comedy, and romance.

The audience-participation style is all about elevating and celebrating the guests who join in on the fun.

Orlandia

Submission - Narratives

*Semi-Finalist* winning submission in the 2020 Disney Imaginations Design Competition.

Served as the show writer, producing all project descriptions, narratives, and presentation copy as well as contributed to the overall design concept and project development. Team also included: Amy Avalos, Nikki Sutterby, and Lin Leffel.

The contest, sponsored by Disney Imagineering, challenged teams to design a space that represents and honors their home city. Orlandia is a park featuring scaled down versions of Orlando landmarks that transforms the city into your playground.

This project was conceived by the UCF Orlandia Team and created for the 2020 Walt Disney Imagineering's Imaginations Design Competition. This project is the sole property of Walt Disney Imagineering and all rights to use these ideas are exclusive to Walt Disney Imagineering. The competition is a way for students and recent graduates to showcase their talents and for Walt Disney Imagineering to identify new talent.

The Visit: An Escape Room

Treatment

An escape room adapted from The Visit, a play by Friedrich Dürrenmatt.

Served as the show writer in the design of this project, writing the introductory script and narrative description of the experience. Also guided the designers, Nikki Sutterby and Lin Leffel, in the concept and layout of the project.

The Visit is the story of a woman who offers a down-trodden town a fortune in exchange for the death of the man who ruined her life. This escape room retells the story in a physical, experiential form, with guests taking on the role of reporters investigating the events of the play. The story unfolds as the players solve puzzles, discover new rooms, and uncover story elements.

Spelaeum

Treatment

An original design for a modern Mithraic temple.

The goal of this project was to design a modern interpretation of a sacred space that told the story of the selected religion and allowed for religious practice without utilizing any traditional symbols or structures.

Mithraism was an Ancient Roman mystery religion celebrating the feats of the god, Mithras. The main practice of the religion involved ritual feasting, and as such, the space is designed as a restaurant with tiered levels of seating representing the ascending levels of membership.
